We got to watch a beautiful sunrise this morning as we left Deadwood. Definitely one of my favorite places so far.
Our first stop of the day was at Devil's Tower in WY. We made the mistake of not planning breakfast, and just grabbing it on the road. Well, this was the first day that we drove on some desolate, no wifi, no rest stops, no McDonald's roads. We finally found a little gas station, where we filled up and grabbed some breakfast sandwiches and coffee!
About a half hour later, we arrived at Devil's Tower. We passed a prairie dog town on the way in, which made Ollie's day...
Devil's Tower was so cool, and the hike around it was gorgeous. There were a few rock climbers, working their way up... they looked like little specks - you could barely see them. We met some new friends on the trail, when they saw us taking a picture of Marshall. He's a professional photographer, and they travel around, taking pictures of his stuffed burro at different landmarks. He gave Ollie some photography tips, and took our picture for us.
Our next stop was Pompey's Pillar. Ollie learned about Pompey (Sacagawea's son) last year, and was excited to see the pillar. We got to see William Clark's signature on the side of it. The view from the top was incredible, overlooking the Yellowstone River.
We left around 4:00, and grabbed dinner on the way to our hotel for the night in Great Falls, MT. Each hotel has been better than the last, and this one is awesome!
